FAQ

What is a Summer Learning Club?

It is a small group of students who meet for 3 hours a day Monday to Thursday to practice reading skills (phonics, sight words, oral reading fluency, and handwriting) inside of weekly student-centered themes (outer space, zoo animals, dinosaurs, extreme weather, etc.). It's a way to keep learning over the summer without the pressure of school.

Where will the Summer Learning Club meet?

The Summer Learning Club will be hosted at Joy Lutheran Church in Eagle River, AK.

*Please note that this is an academic camp. No religious instruction will be conducted in the Summer Learning Club.

How do I sign up?

Prior to enrollment in the program, you will need to sign up for a FREE 15 min. reading placement test with one of our tutors. The reading placement test will ask students to identify letters and their corresponding sounds (for beginning readers) and then they will read a series of words with various phonics patterns to identify what skills they have mastered, and what skills they will need more practice with inside the program. This will help us place your child in the group that will best meet their individual reading goals. Once your child has been placed into a group by one of our tutors, you can sign up online for the weeks that work best with your schedule.

When does the Summer Learning Club meet?

The Summer Learning Club will meet Mondays through Thursdays beginning on June 8. The Club will run until July 16. Students will be placed into one of two groups by a reading tutor after their reading placement test (must be completed prior to Learning Club start date). The morning group of students will meet from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM. The afternoon group of students will meet from 1:00-4:00 PM. Drop off begins at 9:00 & 1:00. Students will need to arrive within 10 minutes of the start of the session. Students must be picked up promptly at the end of their session. Any student picked up more than 5 minutes after dismissal will be charged a penalty fee of $10. Students with excessive tardies for arrival or pickup will be excused from the program.

How much does the Summer Learning Club Cost?

Tuition is charged weekly (Monday-Thursday / 3 hours each day) at a rate of $100. All tuition must be paid by Saturday at 2:00 PM each week prior to drop off on the following Monday. This gives our tutors time to get accurate enrollment numbers and prepare learning materials for the coming week. You can pay online using the "Book Online" tab, and adding the desired weeks into your cart for checkout. Parents wanting to sign up for all 6 weeks can select the "Learning Club SUMMER PASS" to get 50% off your 6th week!

What will students be doing in the summer learning club?

Each day students will learn exciting facts about one of our kid-approved themes, make a fun craft to extend their learning, practice essential reading skills to keep the summer learning slump at bay, and make new friends while playing board games and constructing epic Lego structures! There is something for everyone in the Summer Learning Club!
